The state of Oregon has approved the Antelope Ridge Wind Farm application for construction and now it is up to the public to decide further.
The Antelope Ridge Wind Farm, projected to be built in the Craig Mountain area of Union County has had their application approved but now it needs public review and approval.
The department's Energy Facility Siting Council need to decide whether the project meets standards for Oregon Administrative Rules.
The project, although beneficial will need to address many outlying issues such as effects on local habitats and wildlife, property values and scenery.
While there are always those that can approve there are many in favor of the wind farm boasting upsides such as creating jobs, producing green energy and promoting economic development.
As with anything of this magnitude it's not a short lived battle for sure. The department has been issuing applications and procedures since 2009 and it is just now being approved for the next step.
The meeting for public review will be January 25, 2011. and oral comments will be heard at this meeting while a formal hearing will be held at a later time.
